Our client, Camp Quality Canada, is a well-established, national, not-for-profit organization with a small head office team of employees and over 500 volunteers, all dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children living with cancer. The organization runs summer camps at seven locations in Canada and provides year-round family support programs, delivering fun, laughter, friendship and memorable experiences.

Camp Quality Canada is currently seeking an Executive Director for its head office in Toronto. This is a broad leadership role, providing a positive, team-oriented approach to staff management at the head office and delivering responsive, appreciative support to camp directors and their volunteer teams. The Executive Director also acts as the external face of the organization, maintaining and enhancing its visibility and the effectiveness of its messaging.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Board President, this key role has leadership responsibilities in providing vision, guidance, creative problem-solving and practical support to camps to ensure effective change and outstanding execution across all areas of the organization, including: planning; volunteer management; fundraising; communications; financial management; and operational and risk management, including camper safety.

The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in promoting a culture of inclusiveness, collaboration and volunteer appreciation and actively facilitates a best-practice approach to the sharing of operational knowledge across the organization.

Externally, the role has a key communications function in building relationships with community funders, related associations and pediatric oncology specialists.

By communicating effectively and maintaining high visibility and credibility outside the organization, the Executive Director enhances the prominence of Camp Quality Canada as an impactful national not-for-profit organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Over 10 years’ experience in progressive leadership roles, with demonstrated attainment of deliverables

  • University/college degree

  • Demonstrated ability to create a cohesive organizational culture

  • Exceptional relationship-management, facilitation and collaboration skills

  • The capacity to lead a broad range of functions: planning; volunteer management; communications; fundraising; financial management, including budget development; and operational and risk management, including camper safety

  • Ability to lead fundraising initiatives and cultivate relationships with potential funders

  • Experience and confidence in working with and presenting to a board

  • Strong staff/volunteer management and team-building experience, with a commitment to open communication, effective feedback and ongoing staff development to support continuous improvement

  • Excellent presentation skills, with demonstrated leadership presence and influencing ability

  • Decision-making and creative problem-solving ability, judgment and follow-through, with a track record of enhancing process improvements and advancing change
